Developer Shuts Down The Midnight Walkers Servers, Turns Game Into PvE With P2P Connection

South Korean studio Oneway Ticket Studio has officially implemented a radical change to the structure of The Midnight Walkers. In a statement published on Steam on the 16th, the project director, known as Ray, announced the end of live service and the shutdown of official dedicated servers. To prevent the title from disappearing from users' libraries, the team completely reworked the game, transforming it into a cooperative PvE (Player versus Environment) experience with support for Peer-to-Peer (P2P) connections.

End of dedicated servers and the Peer-to-Peer solution

The decision came after an internal reassessment of the project's long-term sustainability. The development team found that maintaining the network infrastructure and continued operation of the game had become financially unviable. Instead of simply removing access to the purchased title, the developer chose to rework the network architecture to use P2P technology.

In the Peer-to-Peer model, the player's own computer acts as the main server for the session (host), allowing other users to connect directly to them. This means owners of the game can still enjoy cooperative matches without depending on any validation or hosting on Oneway Ticket Studio's central servers.

Overhaul in balancing and game systems

This conceptual change required deep adjustments to the original mechanics. Since the title was initially designed around PvPvE (Player versus Player versus Environment) dynamics, the removal of player-versus-player combat forced the removal of the in-game Market and competitive ranking systems.

To adapt progression to the new purely cooperative format, the team adjusted combat balance, the in-game economy, and the character progression curve. The focus is now entirely on combating map threats and surviving as a team.

Team's commitment to the franchise's future

Despite the shutdown of the live service structure, director Ray emphasized a sense of responsibility to the community that purchased the product. The transition to P2P was described by leadership as the minimum effort required to keep the work alive and playable indefinitely.

The studio hasn't ruled out returning to develop new content for The Midnight Walkers universe in the future, should new investment opportunities or favorable business partnerships arise. For now, the adapted P2P and PvE version serves as the definitive and self-sustaining edition of the game on Steam.
